National Formosa University, located in Yunlin County, a major agricultural hub in Taiwan, offers students easy access to agricultural life. The university actively integrates teaching and research with regional industries, promoting human resource development to address challenges such as an aging and insufficient rural workforce. This fosters competitive local agricultural advantages. In response to Taiwan’s challenges of a decreasing and aging agricultural population, the university has established an agricultural talent cultivation system, utilizing a mentor-mentee model to train young people willing to engage in agriculture and develop the skills necessary for management, processing, marketing, and innovation. The educational goals include: cultivating professional agricultural managers with expertise in digital transformation and smart agriculture, enhancing agricultural competitiveness, encouraging social responsibility by connecting agriculture values with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and fostering resilient agricultural knowledge to address issues like food security, net-zero carbon emissions, and environmental sustainability.
