Introduction

Unmanned aerial systems achieve autonomous mission execution through the integration of autopilot systems and ground control stations for route planning. The Autonomous Flight Laboratory pioneered fixed-wing autonomous flight technology as early as 2008 with the completion of the first-generation dual 16-bit autopilot, predating open-source flight controllers by 5 years. Over the course of the 2018-2022 National Science Council project, the laboratory developed a 32-bit single-chip multi-core autopilot, aiming to commercialize the technology. The program for this autopilot runs on the Infineon CPU0, while mission payload operation software is allocated to other cores for user development. Furthermore, Professor Lin leads the fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicle team in the department, achieving a notable accomplishment in 2022 by setting the record for the longest solar-powered UAV flight in the Asian academic community, with a duration of 22 hours.
